At Risk / Pure Risk

 The "at risk or "pure risk" in any permanent life insurance policy, including indexed universal life (IUL), is defined as the total amount currently payable if the insured were to die today less the amount that the policy can be surrendered for (cash value). Both the gross death benefit and the cash value are reduced upon death or surrender by any outstanding policy loans. (Back to IUL Table of Contents)
